Barrington Levy’s Here I Come and Love The Life You Live re-released digitally
Bringing back the sounds of Jamaica, the re-release of legendary reggae superstar Barrington Levy’s 1985 studio album Here I Come is now available to stream or download.
Following numerous projects during his adolescence and an extremely successful burst onto the worldwide reggae and dancehall scene in the early 80s, Levy set himself up for phenomenal success upon Here I Come’s initial release. The title track slid into the UK Singles Chart and, whilst much of this success can be attributed to Levy’s unique style and effortless musicality, the help of King Tubby’s producer Paul ‘Jah Screw’ Love ensured such a positive response. Even today, Here I Come has managed to accumulate an impressive 9,500,000 streams on Spotify alone.
As a result of going on to receive numerous accolades in response to his material, including the award for ‘Best Vocalist’ at the 1984 British Reggae Awards, Levy could not be in a better position upon the release of his fourteenth album, Love The Life You Live, which is now also available as a digital re-release.
The late 80s saw Levy decide to take a slower approach to releasing his albums but this was not to be a problem as his enormously popular cover of Too Experienced, the third track featured on Love The Life You Live, ensured he saw no lull in his career. Produced once again by Jah Screw, this album is filled with the same style of feel good reggae classics that fans have come to know and love.
Moving into the present day, it’s clear that Barrington Levy established the foundations for modern reggae and dancehall artists who still call upon his influence. Alongside having shaped the genre with his previous work, Levy’s own material is still being received to critical acclaim today. Most notably, his 2015 album Acousticalevy was nominated for a Grammy. He’s even left his mark upon the gaming industry with Here I Come featuring in the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto!
With all of this in mind, it can easily be said that Here I Come and Love The Life You Live are highly essential albums for any reggae lover and your collection would certainly not be complete without them.
